Young Musicians Thrive at 'In The Making' Workshop

Jacob Billington Trust is delighted to share that two students took part in 'In the Making' - an in house national workshop for music creation and mentoring. This was a programme run by Sound and Music.

Thanks to funding from JBT, the students, Emily and Poppie, were able to immerse themselves in a programme of creative workshops, and mentoring sessions with professional composers and sound artists. In the Making is designed to help young people explore composition, discover new ways of expressing themselves through sound, and gain the confidence to share their work with others.

Throughout the programme, the students developed their creative skills and met like-minded young musicians from across the UK. They had the opportunity to experiment with different musical styles, work with cutting-edge technology, and receive personal guidance from leading figures in contemporary music.

Catching up with Poppie and Emily the two of them had the below to say about their experience so far.

In the Making was great and I was able to learn a lot while also being able to meet so many people.
It was boss, I feel I was able to learn more in one week about music then I did in two years in GCSE.

This residential was part of an on-going, year long course that Emily and Poppie will continue to engage with, thanks to funding from JBT.

JBT is committed to opening doors for young people to explore their potential in music and the arts. Collaborations like this one with Sound and Music ensure that aspiring creators - regardless of background - have access to the inspiration, mentorship, and community that can make all the difference.
